ARKIS once again supported International Peace Day on the 21st of September, following the words of the United Nations Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres: “Racism continues to poison institutions, social structures, and everyday life in every society. It continues to be a driver of persistent inequality. And it continues to deny people their fundamental human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments….”
Across Pre School, Primary and Secondary schools a variety of events were scheduled and included all staff and students being encouraged to wear white for the day, acknowledging a day of peace.
“Preschool students had the opportunity to sow seeds which will soon turn into plants as a symbol of respect towards the environment. They also participated in activities which encouraged cooperation and teamwork. Additionally, they practiced yoga to learn how to deal with their emotions in a constructive way. We are very proud of our students growing into peaceful citizens of the world. Happy International Peace Day!” Notes Assistant Head of Preschool & Assistant English Coordinator Ms. Kornilia Mytili.
Elementary students drew and painted peace posters which they hung up in the reception area on the occasion. Also, some fun activities were organised by the PE department. The Secondary students were involved in activities that focused on how to respect and accept others’ opinions and show intercultural understanding and resolve their differences.
